The Investment Zone

Multiple artists coming together for one project, bring many possibilities of design in a given space, being the sculptor in this group was indeed special.
We cleaned, painted and created a community space under this flyover. A neglected area under the flyover starting brimming with sculptures, paintings and performances! This created a room for interaction with the local community who in turn started caring for the new expanse.
This project was a pilot which shows how a space under the flyover could transform into a community area and belong to the local people. This activity brought people and artists together. And yes it also made the city look brighter.
If the government invests in more such projects, it will bring positive social responsibility and create opportunities. From ugly posters, dumpcarts, barrenness to a safe and healthy community living.
About Investment Zone:
A reality game in12 moves Investment Zone is a participatory art work and reality game. Ten citizens in Gelsenkirchen (Germany) and ten citizens in Bangalore (India) are invited to make use of a plot of abandoned land and transform it over the course of six months. Participants come together every two weeks to deliberate, discuss and invest in the development of the plot. How does the process compare between the shrinking city of Gelsenkirchen with the fast growing Bangalore?
In Bangalore the game zone was located under the KH Double Road flyover, one of the noisiest places in the city.
The project was part of Archipel Invest. It was commissioned by KunstRepublik. It was produced by Urbane Künste Ruhr, a division of Kultur Ruhr GmbH. The Bangalore part of the project is organised by Jaaga.
Played from June – December 2014
Falling elements
Jaaga DNA @ Wheeler road flyover – A collaboration with German artist in bangalorREsidency

For any life form to exist there needs to be light. In the darkness under the flyover I feel eerie, a sense of doom. The mass of concrete, the rubble, the dirt, the air deprive me of a certain faith in the future. We remain as long as the five elements – earth, air, water, fire & energy are balanced. Constant abuse and disregard of any element will lead us to darkness.
My work here is an attempt to create a portal of awareness, caution and hope.
From darkness… a warning/ awakening
